Jake Fenton, Lawyer

Jake grew up working for his grandfather's local business as a diesel fuel systems technician, where he came to understand how important trustworthy and reliable service can be to those who need help keeping their livelihoods running.

After finishing high school in Peterborough, Jake completed an Honours degree in legal studies at Carleton University, Ottawa, in 2018. There he developed an interest in the legal issues experienced by Canada's various Indigenous peoples, particularly when it came to natural resource industry and infrastructure. This led Jake to pursue his professional education at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia, graduating in 2021. Living in Kamloops and the Interior of British Columbia as the Trans-Mountain pipeline was being constructed exposed Jake to the full slate of perspectives regarding the law and natural resource industry. During his articling term and as an associate, Jake provided legal advice to various First Nations governments and band members on civil litigation and governance matters, and gained invaluable experience in real estate, wills, and family law practice.

Jake recently returned home to Peterborough, and is eager to give back to the community that raised him by helping people through some of their most difficult times, in a cost-conscious and transparent manner. Jake focuses his practice on civil litigation, including contested estate issues, business disputes, wrongful dismissal claims, as well as custody and property disputes in the family law realm. Out of the courtroom, Jake will be practicing in residential real estate, wills, and business law.

Outside of the office, you’ll find Jake hanging out with Hudson, his bully/boxer mix, golfing Peterborough's beautiful courses, fishing the region's many lakes, playing baseball, and coaching local youth hockey as a goaltending instructor.
